Urine Stain Removal Tips: Remove Urine Stain Problems and Odor

If your cat has a problem using its litter box or housetraining your new puppy is not going well, you may need some tips on how to remove urine stain marks from your carpet. Urine stains on the carpet are unsightly and often have an odor.

Removing Pet Urine Stains

* To remove urine stain marks and odor from your carpet caused by your pet, start by blotting up the urine with white paper towels. Always wear rubber gloves when doing this.

Do not scrub the urine stain as this pushes the urine deeper into the carpet. Make a solution by mixing one cup of warm water and 1/4 teaspoon of mild liquid laundry detergent. Spray on the stain, blot with white paper towels, and repeat until not more stain transfers.

Combine a cup of warm water and two tablespoons of ammonia and again spray and blot. Mix together two cups of warm water and one cup of vinegar.

Blot this solution onto the carpet. To dry the carpet, place paper towels on the wet spot and weight them down with something heavy. Repeatedly change the paper towels until you remove most of the moisture.

Remove the paper towels and let the carpet air dry. When cat or dog urine soaks into a carpet and this hits the under pad, it is at least twice the size as the stain on the surface.

Because of this, when you treat the carpet stain, also clean the area around the stain.

* Pour regular rubbing alcohol on a fresh urine stain and leave it for approximately fifteen minutes. Blot up using white paper towels and then repeat until the urine is gone.

* On an old urine stain on carpet, pour apple cider vinegar on the stain. Sponge this out using water and then blot dry. After it is completely dry, sprinkle baking soda on and around the spot and leave for twenty-four hours. Vacuum up the baking soda and there is no more stain or odor.

How to Remove a Urine Stain from a Mattress

To remove urine stain marks from a mattress, start by applying either white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide to the stain and using an old rag or cloth, wipe in a circular motion.

Start at the outside of the stain and work your way into the middle. To the newly cleaned area, apply baking soda and leave overnight to remove and prevent any unpleasant odors.

These inexpensive and easy to make solutions are great to remove urine stain and odors from carpets and mattresses.
