Small Tricks for a Shiny Bathroom

by Izzy Smith

The bathroom is the place that needs most proper maintenance and cleaning, as it has direct contact with water, moisture and chemicals.

Like the kitchen, it should be cleaned regularly in order to avoid accumulation of dirt and overlays and spending hours in attempts to remove them.

Besides all this, regular care prevents from deposition of harmful molds and microbes, and thereby, provides a healthy environment for you and your family.

How to Deal with the Moisture in the Bathroom?

Whatever you do, the bathroom still remains the wettest room at home. To deal with the moisture in the bathroom, you must have a window or ventilation, or both of them.

It is preferable to use them after every shower that you take so that moisture cannot retain in the bathroom or worse – enter the other rooms in your house.

This will also prevent the room from mold formation.

How to Clean Tile Grout Joints?

Before starting with the actual rubbing, pour the tiles in the bathroom with hot water. Let the deposits on the tiles, especially the joints, to soften for about 5 minutes and then you're ready for action.

If you do not want to resort to strong detergents, you can experiment with classic recipes with vinegar diluted in water or paste prepared of baking soda and water.

How to Get Rid of Limescale?

The most terrible thing you have to deal with is the bathroom limescale, which is easily and quickly accumulated on the sink, toilet or tub.

For smaller surfaces, use paper towels and vinegar. Soak paper with vinegar and place it on the shower or sink. Leave it to act for an hour, and then gently scrub with a dry cloth.

You can soak the shower handset in a bucket or bowl with apple vinegar. Leave it to soak for a night, then just rinse. For other larger areas you can fill a bottle, spray the surface, let it act, scrub and rinse. White vinegar works great.

How to Deal with Mold Formation?

When we talk about a healthy environment in the bathroom, the presence of mold is a major factor.

As already mentioned, good air circulation and reduced humidity are good means to prevent mold growth. However, when you have to deal with the existing ones, you have to trust any special detergent for that purpose.

Since the joints between tiles are porous, they absorb remains of cosmetics and soap, which leads to the accumulation of mold – these deposits can be cleaned with a solution of 10 parts water and 1 part bleach or by special agents against mold.

To remove stains from the bleach solution, wipe with a cleanser with neutral pH and do not forget to wear gloves all the time.

How to Maintain Pipes?

Every two months, clean the pipes in your bathroom with a special detergent – it will protect them from serious blockages and deposits of fat and hair.

Meanwhile, every week or every few days, purify them with a homemade cleaner – pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain and immediately pour half a cup of vinegar afterwards.
